Israel is planning to host the 2019 World Cup in 2021, marking a landmark moment for the country as it prepares for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
On Friday, the foreign ministry said it would hold a meeting with Israeli officials on the issue.
The foreign ministry, which has not yet officially announced the date, has said it hopes the meeting will “serve as a catalyst to accelerate the implementation of the international sporting infrastructure project in Israel”.
The 2022 World Cup will be held at the Etzion Bloc stadium in Jerusalem, the venue chosen in an agreement with the Jerusalem municipality, the ministry said in a statement.
The 2022 tournament is expected to be played in Jerusalem with a capacity of 50,000 spectators.
Israel has hosted a number of international sporting events, including the Olympics in 2020, which were held in Jerusalem and were widely seen as a step toward a more inclusive Israel.
